Tour’s Defending Champs to Show No Mercy

In 2011, the powerful Genesys Wealth Advisers team stormed its way across the escarpment to win the Tour of Toowoomba spear-headed by its high profile rider, Pat Shaw.

For Pat, it was win number two in the Tour of Toowoomba, and for the Genesys team, it was another great victory which further cemented its reputation as Australia’s outstanding domestic racing outfit.

Back then, co-founder, Steve Price, was proudly exulting his “Orange Army”, referring to “the kicking of arse” and “taking of names”, as the Genesys machine chalked up one outstanding win after another.

In 2011, their roll of honour included numerous stage wins in Tours around the nation, as well as wins in New Zealand and Japan.

Overall Tour victories included the Tour of Mersey Valley (Nathan Haas), the Tour of Canberra (Steele von Hoff), Tour of Toowoomba (Pat Shaw), the Tour of Geelong (Steele von Hoff), the Tour of Murray River (Pat Shaw), and the Tour of Tasmania (Nathan Haas), while Joel Pearson took out the Melbourne to Warrnambool and Nathan Haas captured the Citi to Goulburn.

The icing on the cake came when Nathan Haas took out the 2011 Jayco Herald Sun Tour, and both Nathan and Steele were quickly lapped up by Garmin Cervelo, now Garmin Barracuda, and are now forging a career in Europe.

2012 has seen Genesys Wealth Advisers embark on an equally ambitious program with much of their early season racing taking place in Asia.

Steve Price is currently overseeing Genesys’s campaign in Western Sumatra, and told CSN that his team members have plenty of miles in the legs and are looking forward to this next round of the National Road Series.

“Confidence is really good at the moment, and we’ve had some good wins in recent weeks and the boys are enjoying their racing” Steve added.

“ All the riders are either in good form or hopefully coming into form, so the team for Toowoomba should be strong by the time the first stage gets underway on Thursday. Most of the team has been finalised, but you never know, we may make a couple of last minute changes depending on how a couple of the boys are looking”.

Steve confirmed that Genesys Wealth Advisers will go into the Tour of Toowoomba with only one goal- to win!

“We are the defending champions so we would like to get up again. Mind you, we have the teamwork and the tactical decision-making ability to allow this to happen. The boys always put themselves on the line for each other and have a good understanding of what's required.”

“The sentimental choice to win the Tour of Toowoomba this year has to be Pat Shaw, as he’s won both editions to date. Pat always puts the team first and will ride for the guy that is going the strongest. But to be honest, every rider we bring to Toowoomba will be capable of winning.”

And as the Genesys Wealth Advisers team sets about “showing no mercy”, who does Steve Price think will provide a bit of opposition…?

“I think Mark O'Brien is showing that he is a serious contender. He rode well at Mersey Valley and has a strong team, and other than that, the young guys guns like Alex Clements and Mitchell Lovelock-Fay will be in the mix as well I would expect.”

“Whatever happens, the Tour of Toowoomba is one of our favourite races. It's very well run, and has great support from FKG. We're really looking forward to it.”
