Bradley Wiggins (Team Sky) took a decisive victory in Chartres today to claim his second time trial victory in the yellow jersey at the 2012 Tour de France. Covering the 53.5 kilometer course in 1:04:13, Wiggins beat teammate Chris Froome by 1:16.
The Sky duo solidified their hold on first and second overall. The top ten on general classification underwent only one change as defending champion Cadel Evans (BMC) slipped down to seventh place.
Michael Albasini was the top finisher for ORICA-GreenEDGE in 62nd place, crossing the finish line 6:12 down on Wiggins. Simon Gerrans finished one place further back.
The Tour de France ends on Sunday with its traditional easygoing stage start ahead of eight fast finishing laps that culminate in a flat-out sprint on the Champs-Élysées.
“We got through the time trial with minimal effort today,” said Sports Director Matt White. “We’re saving it for tomorrow.”
