The NSW Clubs Team Time Trial took place in Nowra on Saturday in windy but (luckily) dry conditions. All teams battled with a strong headwind on the uphill outbound leg but managed to reap the benefits of the wind for the 20km ride home.
There was a large competitive turn out for each category with strong support from Illawarra CC, Sydney Uni Velo, Waratah Masters and Sutherland Shire CC. A big congratulation’s goes out to the Elite Women’s and Women’s Masters Teams which had 5 and 7 teams respectively.
Photo: 2012 Clubs Team Time TrialCopyright Cycling NSWIt seems big things are happening with women’s cycling in the Eastern Suburbs with majority of women’s teams coming from Sydney CC, Sydney Uni Velo, or the Eastern Suburbs CC. In the Women’s Masters Category, Sydney CC managed to get 2 teams onto the podium, narrowly missing out on the Gold by the Eastern Suburbs CC team.
The wind seemed too much to handle for many riders of the Elite Men’s categories with many teams being blown apart. In the end, it was Manly Warringah CC who finished in a time of 1:47.20, Canberra CC coming in to bag the silver (+1min30), and Sutherland claiming Bronze (+4min50).
Our Men’s Masters All Age teams turned out to be the most competitive of the day with the 3 top teams all finishing within a 50second window. The powerful Penrith CC team of Eddie Salas, Peter Milostic, Sean Brunt and Nicholas Brain won the All Ages title in a time of 55:01.90. They were closely followed by Manly Warringah CC (55:37.30) and 2011 Champions, Bicisport (55:51.81).
Twenty five teams competed in the Masters 150+ age category. Once again, a team from Manly Warringah CC led the charge in a time of 57:47.52 making it 2 from 3 wins for the club. Northern Sydney CC claimed the silver and Central Coast also managed to take a medal back to their club.
All in all, the Clubs Team Time Trial was a fantastic day with a great atmosphere! The soup kitchen was a great hit and the Rotary BBQ was also well appreciated. A special note goes out to the Dulwich Hill BC “Classic” team! (See photo!)
Finally, thanks to Elite Energy events and Managing Director Mark ‘Emo’ Emerton for a well organised event.
