Terrific Tom Takes Burra

Tom Kaesler (SASI) took the win and fastest time honours at this year’s Burra Classic.

The young Kilkenny Club rider made the winning move with Harry Carpenter (2nd) and Tristan Jones (3rd) on the hills of the Morgan Road, not far from the turn through Burra North.

Riders in the 92nd Edition of “The Burra”, set off in sunny but windy conditions. And during the early afternoon, the North Westerly Breeze picked up, which helped to improve the chances of the back markers in the race.

The early going was made by 22 and 17 minute bunches. But unwittingly, their respective good work proved to be their undoing, as it meant they didn’t form a larger working group until halfway back from Robertstown. If they’d merged together earlier, who knows if they could have stayed away to take the win?

They were still however chasing two lone leaders from the limit group at this stage. Meanwhile, not too far behind them, the solid Scratch and block group had made contact with the 10 minute group.

This larger chasing group, now had the impetus to get to the front of the race on the Morgan Road. The run back to Burra saw a flurry of attacks, with the top place getters making their winning move.

Bragging rights for the local Burra Traders go to Burra Fresh, who picked up Tom Kaesler in the random draw for sponsored riders.
