2008 sees the inaugural running of The Tour of the Scenic Rim located in the newly created Scenic Rim local government area and run from the town of Boonah located just South-West of Brisbane and West of the Gold Coast being the gateway to the Border Ranges.
This event is planned to become a yearly event with the inclusion of a fourth stage in following years and including more of the Shire area to provide a better experience for the participants.
At this stage, the host club, Gold Coast Goldstars’ permit only allows 250 riders to take part in the event, and the first 100 entries have a chance to win a new Shimano wheelset.
The Boonah district offers some outstanding scenery, and riders will get the opportunity to test their skills over some pretty challenging terrain. Gold Coast Goldstars CC President, Andre Bondeson, is hoping riders will get in early with entries in this year’s historic race.
“The tendency is for Queensland cyclists to enter events five minutes before entries close”, he told CSN, “ and this makes organising these events an absolute nightmare, as many purchasing decisions have to be made far in advance”.
The 2008 Tour of the Scenic Rim promises to be a great event, and excitement is already mounting as the weeks count down.
