There were two certainties at the Daniel Bennett Memorial Race meeting at Nerang yesterday. One, it was going to rain (even a little bit) and two, everyone who devoted their time and energy to making the day a very special event, was able to reap rewards for their effort.

From canteen staff, officials and fans right through to the riders themselves, it was all about giving, and at the end of the day, there was a sense of satisfaction and happiness in the knowledge that Daniel would have been pretty honoured by all the support.
One year and one day after Daniel’s tragic demise, it was nice to see only positive signs around the course….smiles replacing tears, laughter replacing sadness, and dozens of guys and girls getting out there and doing what they love..racing their bikes.
Everybody were winners, but at the end of the day there were some standout performances.

International star, Matt Hayman, captured the honours in the feature event, and there were some great performances from the likes of Brendon Hill who obliterated the Junior A field, and Lifecycle’s Julie Uebel, who apparently took out the Womens A/B event to record her first race win.
Popular Gold Coast rider, Chris Murphy, became the inaugural recipient of the Daniel Bennett Development Fund Scholarship, while Junior rider, Jenna Fulton, collected a fine trophy for amassing the most points in the 4 Race Series Pointscore.
