Active ImageRace promoter, Peter Flynn, had plenty to show off at the Gold Coast races this morning when he revealed the magnificent goblets created by local Queensland artist Leanne Walker.

Leanne has donated the goblets as part of the prize pool for next weekend’s Tour of the Scenic Rim at Boonah.

The fledgling Tour has already attracted over 100 riders, and Peter Finch is confident the inaugural event will be a glowing success.

“Everything is looking good at the moment” Peter told CSN, “But the Senior Men have let us down a bit, which is a shame. Still, registrations are open till Monday night, so we’ll just have to wait and see if there’s a race from it”.

Despite the current senior numbers, support from other grades has apparently been excellent.

“It has been an unbelievable 2 year effort to get the concept of this race off the ground. Our sponsors have been very keen to get on board, and now we’re just waiting to get further rider support to make it a real success”.

“The Boonah Shire Council has been extremely excited by the prospect of the Tour developing and extending to take in more aspects of the Scenic Rim tourist area, and we have a chance to apply for a $5000 to assist our cause, so everything is looking good for the future” Peter added.

Leanne Walker’s artistic creations, given to the various category winners, will be a wonderful memento of the Tour, and no doubt the leading contenders next weekend will be hoping to add one of these trophies to their mantelpiece collections.

The goblet has a symbolic depiction of the hills of Boonah on its base, and with plenty of these in store next Saturday, riders will certainly know they have been in a bike race.

“I wanted a course that was tough and one that gave our riders an opportunity to practice their climbing skills. Too often the Queenslanders head south and are swamped when they hit the hills.

Hopefully a race like the Tour of the Scenic Rim will go a long way to changing this situation”.
