Active ImageWhen a stranger from North Tyneside contacted a UK Children’s Cancer Charity and said he wanted to help, no-one knew what great lengths this man was prepared to go to achieve this goal.

Martin Lisle, survived horrific head injuries after a bicycle accident ten years ago, and also lost his mother to cancer around the same time, so the Marsden Estate resident, had plenty of reasons to give something back to the community.

As the10th anniversary of these tragic events draws nigh, Martin wants to make sure he “makes a difference”.

Recently he was one of thousands of riders who undertook the Great North Bike Ride in England, and now the likeable Englishman is about to ride his bike for charity across the Nullabor Plain from Perth, and then on to Sydney via Adelaide and Melbourne, an arduous journey of nearly 5000 kilometres.

Martin leaves the UK on the 19th January, and his journey of a lifetime, which he is funding himself, is due to commence on the Australia Day.

All money raised will go to the Chris Lucas Trust, a branch of the Royal Marsden Cancer Research Centre in Surrey.

Martin intends to set up a “Justgiving” scheme, and access to his Facebook, where he will be uploading videos of his epic journey:

”It's hard to believe people like Martin are prepared to go through so much helping others”, Lyn Lucas told CSN.

It’s his way of giving something back to the community and, as children are our future, Martin is doing his bit to ensure that young people are spared the horrors of cancer suffering”.

”Only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the mid-day sun. It will be the Australian summer with average temperatures in the 30s and a small matter of crossing the 1287 km, 800 mile Nullabor Desert” Martin explained.

“I’ll be crossing four states and three time zones, and at times camping with the knowledge that the ten most  deadly snakes on the planet all live in Australia!!”

“Not to mention large spiders that actually bite large spiders that bite. Hopefully not in my tent!” Martin added.

“All money raised goes to The Chris Lucas Trust and my aim is to raise one pound for every mile on the bike. I can’t do this on my own, but with the help of you guys out there, it can be a success. Together we can make a difference”.

“Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Chris Lucas Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation”.

On the eve of his massive bike ride, Martin Lisle says…”Let the mayhem commence!!”
