Hot Chillee sends two teams to Cape Epic

HotChillee, London, 27th March 2012 - HotChillee, the cycling events company behind The London-Paris, The Alpine Challenge and The Cape Rouleur, today announces that it has sent two race teams to compete in the eight day, untamed African Mountain Bike race, The Absa Cape Epic. The Absa Cape Epic is the World's largest mountain bike race with amateurs and professionals riding together, a philosophy close to HotChillee's heart.

HotChillee has entering two teams made up of its event Ride Captains: HotChillee Green and HotChillee Red. On team HotChillee Green are David Bryant, aka The Bull & Will Watt1 and on HotChillee Red, David Kirkby, aka Capt & Jay McStay.

Previous winner of the Absa Cape Epic in 2010, 2009 and 2007 and tipped to win this year, is professional mountain biker and friend to HotChillee Karl Platt. Karl rode the inaugural HotChillee Cape Rouleur earlier this month, taking home the Yellow Jersey from the event.

Platt says: "It was great to ride The Cape Rouleur with HotChillee earlier this month. The event was hugely professional, challenging and incredibly fun with an element of competitiveness to top it off. I've participated in all the Absa Cape Epics since its inception - it has become a unique race over the years, which I could see from the very beginning. It has become part of my career, but the main thing is that I love to race it! And I look forward to seeing the HotChillee teams out there on mountain bikes this time."

The Absa Cape Epic takes riders a challenging 781km across the unspoilt nature of the Western Cape, with approximately 16,300m of climbing over some of the most magnificent passes in South Africa.

Sven Thiele, founder of HotChillee says: "Both HotChillee's London-Paris and The Absa Cape Epic will celebrate their tenth anniversaries next year.  HotChillee has just held its first South African event, The Cape Rouleur, which was a huge success helped by the beauty of the country and the enthusiasm of the local biking community. The Absa Cape Epic is World renowned and sending two teams of HotChillee Ride Captains across for a mountain bike race is very exciting for us. Any of our HotChillee community doing The Cape Rouleur have a great option to stay on in South Africa to cycle The Absa Cape Epic just a few weeks after."
